Has anyone ever told you this? “If something is meant to be, it’ll happen”
People usually say that as a sort of comforting encouragement. And however well-intended those words may be, they’re also dangerous.
Because the risk is that you’ll stop taking action, thinking, “Hey, if it’s meant to be, it’ll find its way to me all by itself. So I’ll just pour myself a nice cup of tea instead.”
I paraphrase and I exaggerate of course. But you get my point, don’t you?
Things that are meant to be, aren’t necessarily easy. They still require an effort from your side.
Just because something is written in the stars, doesn’t always mean the Universe will simply hand it to you on a silver platter.
This, incidentally, is also the part where most people get the Law of Attraction wrong! Attracting good things into your life isn’t about sitting down and wishing really hard for the heavenly manna to descend into your lap. You have to do something too.
Destiny may want something to happen, but you’re the one who will have to make it happen.
Why? Because action = energy
The Universe is not out to get you, as some people seem to believe.
Quite on the contrary! The Universe wants you to be a happy and balanced individual living a life of abundance. And It will try to create the right opportunities for you.
But first, you have to give the Universe something to work with. Things cannot be created out of nothing. Not even by the Universe.
So if you merely sit, wish and daydream, then I’m afraid you will always be at the mercy of the actions and the desires of others. At best, you’ll get some crumbs or leftovers that fall off someone else’s abundant table.
Only when you take action – inspired action preferably – will the Universe be able to manipulate and transform reality, shaping it into opportunities and challenges for you to seize upon.
Because your actions create a dynamic in the world. And this dynamic energy is something that the Universe can bend and shape, in order to allow you to materialise your vision.
The dictionary is with me on this one by the way. It says a dynamic is “a force that stimulates change or progress within a system or process“. See? ;-)
Okay, so what sort of action then?
This is the best bit of all. It might also be the hardest part to believe, so just take that leap of faith with me, okay?
It doesn’t matter so much what you do. It’s more important that you do. Something. Anything. Just do. Take action.
Yes, of course the immediate results will depend on what it is exactly that you do. A small action will achieve less than an incredibly inspired action. Initially.
But that doesn’t matter. What matters is that you have done something. And that you then continue to take action.
You have to bear in mind that this is a process. Depending on how stuck you are, it will simply take more effort or more time to get the ball rolling. It’s the spiritual equivalent of pure physics.
The Finns call it Sisu…
The people of Finland have a concept they call “Sisu”. It’s virtually impossible to translate, since words like perseverance or tenacity don’t even come close.
Basically, Sisu means that you keep taking action, whatever your circumstances may be and sometimes against all odds. Don’t know what to do? Doesn’t matter! Just do something. Because anything is better than nothing.
The good news is you don’t have to be Finnish to have sisu.
You too can do something whenever you feel stuck, or at a loss about which way to turn. Just initiate the process of generating some of that dynamic energy. Give the Universe something to work with.
No action, no energy, no results.
It ain’t what you do…
You know that old timeless classic by Ella Fitzgerald, “It Ain’t What You Do (it’s the way that you do it)”?
In light of what you’ve just read, we should rephrase that into: it ain’t what you do, it’s the fact that you do it.
Maybe not as catchy as Ella’s original version, I admit. But again, you get my point ;-)
What you do is less important than the fact that you’re actually doing something. And once you get the ball rolling, keep it on the move by continuing to take action.
a) have better ideas about the most helpful actions,
b) spot the opportunities along the way as you progress,
c) get better results quicker.
Yes, if it’s meant to happen, it will indeed happen.
But you have to help things along just a little bit. By taking action.
Feel you need a bit more support with that? I’m here for you.
