Rapidly down the drain. That’s where this world seems to be going. Sometimes.
When you make the mistake of reading the news for instance. Or when minor and major misfortunes strike closer to home. In your own personal life even.
So where is the love, peace and understanding that this New Age we’re living in was supposed to bring?
Answer: it’s already there.
Just don’t go looking for it in the outside world. You’ll never find it there. Not the real stuff anyway. That comes from a completely different source.
That’s what flower power really is. A silent force of inner peace and joy, right there in your own heart. And eventually it will spread throughout the entire world – slowly, heart by heart.
But let’s concentrate on your heart first, shall we?
The good news is you don’t need to create or generate flower power. Because like I said, it’s already there. Inside you. You just need to tap into it.
The even better news is that there’s no big secret to it either. All it takes is heartfelt intention and daily practice. That’s it.
All you need to do is calm your mind and tune into your heart.
Of course there are many ways to do that. Some of them will work better for you than others.
Here are 3 steps that seem to work for a lot of people. Simply because they’re so uncomplicated.
In fact, reading through them you might think they’re a bit too simple. Until you actually try them.
Step 1: Breathing
I know I’ve said this before. Breathing really is the simplest way to relax. It takes your mind off whatever it is you’re worrying about. By gradually shifting your attention from your nose to your belly, both your breathing and your mind will slow down. And you’ll feel relaxed.
- So sit down, make yourself comfortable and close your eyes.
- Start by noticing the sensations in your nose and your throat as you breathe in and out. Don’t force yourself to breathe slowly or deeply. Let your body decide on what feels right.
- Once you’ve become aware of the flow of air follow it down into your lungs. Feel how they move as you breathe. Try to feel all the subtle movements of your upper body as your lungs expand.
- Have you ever noticed how breathing out doesn’t take any physical effort? It’s just a letting go. You simply release the tension in your muscles and the air will flow out. Enjoy this feeling. You might even decide to let go of other things as well every time you exhale.
- Shift your focus even lower now and be aware of the flowing movements of your abdomen when you breathe. Feel how your belly and even your sides gently expand as you breathe in? Let these relaxing waves wash over you, and through you, in the eternal rhythm of your breathing.
Step 2: Being here
Our mind has a couple of annoying habits. One of them is that it likes to ignore the most important thing in life: the present moment. Instead, our mind is filled with thoughts of the past and the future.
But thoughts aren’t real. They’re simply a product of your mind.
So you need to remind yourself of that. Tell yourself that what you think is going to happen in your life, isn’t reality. It hasn’t happened yet. It’s just a possibility. One of many different possibilities.
Let that knowledge sink in a bit. Preferably when you’ve put yourself in a relaxed state by doing the breathing exercise.
You’ll see that this is a very powerful place to be: feeling and knowing that everything is merely a possibility. Or to put it in slightly different words, everything is possible.
Some things might seem more likely to happen than others. Some will take more effort to make them happen. But in essence, they’re all possible.
Isn’t that a wonderful position to be in?
Picture yourself sitting peacefully at a crossroads. Spreading out around you like roads and pathways are all these different options and choices you can make. They’re all there. They’re all possible. And you get to choose which ones you follow.
So there’s no need to worry. No need to be nervous. You’re in the centre. You decide where you go from here.
That’s real empowerment for you.
Step 3: Connecting
The third and final step is easy and hard at the same time. Easy because there’s not much you have to actually do. But it can be hard to believe it really is that simple.
So that’s why you need those first two steps. To put yourself in a relaxed and open-minded state. Once you’re there you’ll flow smoothly into the third step:
Ask to be connected.
That’s it. Simply ask. Ask the Universe, your spirit guides, your guardian angel, or whatever feels natural to you. Ask them to connect you with that place of peace, joy and simply being.
You don’t need to beg for it, or throw yourself face down at the ground. Just breathe quietly and try to stay fully present in the moment.
You might become aware of an expanding feeling bubbling up from your belly, your heart, or even your head. It’s slightly different for everyone, and it can be a different feeling every time you try.
The best thing to do is to not have any preconceived expectations of what you want to experience. Simply let it happen.
Let the feeling spread to your arms and hands, and to your entire body. You might even feel it extend beyond your physical body.
Enjoy it. Don’t try to force it or make it do things for you. Simply let it happen. Allow the experience to unfold itself.
After a while the feeling will start to ebb away, signalling that it’s okay for now.
Take some time to return your attention to the present moment. Express your gratitude, and state your intention to connect again soon. Pick a specific day and time to do so.
Living the magical life
Your search for joy and happiness could be a long and disappointing one… as long as you keep looking in the world around you.
The real source of lasting peace and happiness lies within you. It’s always there. Even when the evening news is gloomy, or when someone is having a bad day and giving you a hard time because of it.
All you need to do is tap into this flower power inside you.
Breathe. Be present. And enjoy the feeling of calm inner bliss.
It will take some practice. But the rewards are worth the trouble.
When you make this meditation a daily habit, two ”magical” things will happen. The feeling of peaceful joy will become familiar to you, making it easier to connect with it.
And secondly, when you find yourself in a situation where you’re under emotional pressure, simply call on the memory of the feeling. The memory will create an energetic bridge, allowing your inner peace to flow to the surface and help you.
So make it a habit to connect.
Then flower power will be yours, whenever and wherever you need it.
